Prime Minister Cameron has been dragged into the scandal by his connections with the Murdoch family, Brooks, and Coulson, who was his communications chief until January. He is now scrambling to put distance between himself and the Murdoch empire.
He denies having any knowledge of Coulson’s ties to the phone hacking, the Monitor reported last week.
He has since promised two full inquiries into the hacking allegations and plans to explore changes to the country’s media regulation laws. He is taking a tough line against allegations that James Murdoch misled parliament during his July 19 testimony and is scrambling to calm the calls for his resignation.
