Iran braced itself Feb. 14 for protests inspired by Egyptians' successful mass uprisings, putting large numbers of police and military forces on the streets to disperse any attempts at organizing. AP reported small clashes throughout Tehran on Monday.
Before Mubarak's resignation, the Iranian government came out in support of the protesters – an action which is now prompting accusations of hypocrisy from those being barred from turning out in the streets. A spread of the protests to Iran would be particularly significant because it would be the first non-Arab country to face an Egypt-inspired uprising.
